Good morning! I hope you have had a lovely weekend so far. I find my weeks are always easier and run much more smoothly if I spend some time on the weekend getting organised for the week ahead. I thought I would share with you three things I do every Sunday to help set me up for the week.
1). To do list
Each Sunday I create my master to-do list or my brain dump for the week. I start this task by checking my calendar and seeing what I have coming up for the week. Then I grab my notebook, draw a line down the middle of the page and write a list of all the things I need/want to do for the week at home and for work.
I know I won’t get everything on the list done but it really makes a difference to my stress levels knowing that I have everything captured and I don’t have to spend any mental energy trying to remember things. You can see how I use this list across the week in this post here - Why paper to do lists work for me.
2). Meal prep
I spend a couple of hours in the kitchen on a Sunday prepping some food for the week. I started doing this over 10 years ago by making a sweet treat and something savoury for the kids’ lunch boxes. Now I also cook up some carbs and proteins to have for lunches for the adults of the house, cut up veggies for weekday meals and for snacks and make condiments from scratch etc. Having healthy options on hand means we all eat better and cooking food in bulk saves so much time. You can see the process I follow for meal prep here - My weekly food prep process.
NB. I plan our evening meals out for the week in bulk, so if you don’t normally plan your meals out I would highly recommend you do this part first - you can see how I plan my meals here - Updated free monthly menu planning template and meal list.
3). Get the kids to prepare for the week
This means the kids need to:
Make sure they have all their uniforms/clothes ready
Flag any additional needs they have in terms of drop-offs and pick-ups etc that are on top of what is already on the calendar
Room and desks tidy and ready to go for the new school week
While completing these three simple tasks is not a guarantee for a great week, they provide a solid foundation for me from which a great week can come.
All the best today and for a great week!
