Hello,
I hope you have had a great week. It is about six weeks since I finished the 75 hard challenge. I wanted to give it some time before writing up my final thoughts because I wanted to see what habits I have continued and what I haven’t.
I did a half way update which you can find here and I will use a similar format as that for this update.
Overall thoughts
As I did last time I am going to first list my thoughts overall on the challenge, then I will go into detail about each of the tasks you are required to do, and note what has happened since the challenge has finished, and say whether or not I would do the challenge again.
Undertaking the 75 hard challenge was a really positive experience for me and I was glad I did it. I started the challenge because I wanted something to focus on and to work toward while I was not running due to a foot injury. I also used to do a reset at least annually with my diet when I was attending a CrossFit gym and I hadn’t done one since 2019 so felt like it was a good opportunity to hit reset on my diet as well.
75 hard essential boils down to a time management and commitment activity. To undertake these tasks each day you need to have at the very least a rough plan of what your day will look like so you can fit everything in. It was a clear reminder to me that we fit into our days what we prioritise. Saying yes to one activity very often means saying no to something else and too often we don’t acknowledge the trade-off and we say we didn’t have time for it.
The reality is that saying we didn’t have time for it is often just an excuse for a lack of prioritisation and scheduling. I am by no means saying others should fit all of these activities into their days but if you aren’t spending time on things that you want to be, then you need to look very hard at where you are spending your time.
I look back now and wonder how I managed to fit the tasks in each day but I also realise that I am spending my time on some different things now like Christmas planning, Christmas shopping and many more social events. I think I chose a very good time to do the challenge! Doing it in the lead-up to Christmas would have been even more challenging.
When you take on any project or challenge, if you want it to be successful you need to fully commit to it. I was really keen to do this challenge and I had a clear purpose as to why I was doing it. I had given it plenty of thought - it wasn’t just a whim to give it a whirl and see how it goes. It is a hard challenge and if you were to go into it with that attitude I don’t think you would make it to the end of the 75 days.
Now for some thoughts on each task!
