Tips and tools for helping kids with their homework
and some other things you might like to check out!
Hello,
I hope you are having a great week. I am feeling a renewed sense of optimism and motivation at the moment. I have learnt from previous experience to run with this hard and fast to take advantage of it. My ideas book is full and I need to prioritise carefully what I want to work on because I am excited to get cracking on many things! To be productive and work towards my goals I cannot just work on the things that excite me most, the activities I choose to work on need to help push me forward in the direction of my goal.
It must be the time of year for it because recently many readers have asked questions on how to help kids with their homework. With only two kids in school now (year 8 and year 10) I really don’t do a lot of helping with homework. I actually don’t do anything at all with the year 10 child other than answer questions if he has any and remind him occasionally to monotask – not try and listen to podcasts etc, while doing homework! With the year 8 child it isn’t so much as helping with the homework but helping him be better organised with how he approaches his homework and study.
I have detailed how I currently work with the kids and how I used to work with the kids when all the kids were in school (going from year 1 to year 11). I hope you find it helpful - Tips and tools for helping kids with their homework (but not doing it for them!).
Some things you might like!
Here are a few things on the internet you might like to check out this week:
Stockist spotlight - Adapt Drinks have two new lovely stockists that I have spotlighted on the Adapt Drinks blog. If you have been wanting to purchase a single can of Adapt Drinks to taste it before buying a carton then you should check out Soul Geelong and Hits Different.
The Pure Potential Podcast - Organise the Chaos of Family Life & Make More Memories with Nicole Avery - an interview I did recently with the lovely Alix Mace. She has some other great interviews with inspiring women worth checking out too!
Interspecies and Other Others – Exhibition at Abbotsford Convent - is a free program of video and sound art, sculpture, installation and performance at Abbotsford Convent. The youngest (13 y.o) and I went to the preview evening and had a guided tour led by its curator Kelli Alred. This is an excellent exhibition to do as a family (see the post for more details). It is free flowing, outdoors and touches on contemporary issues that make for great conversations.
Women's Cycle Syncing for Work & Life - this is an online event. As part of Women's Health Week 2022, Own Your Health Co present this Masterclass to help women tap into their personal power for their ambitious careers and most vibrant life.
The Corner Store Network - I came across this via a talented friend, Christina. The Corner Store Network sell direct-trade coffee, make preserves from rescued food and support Timorese communities. They have wonderful gift packs you can buy online and if you are looking for a last minute Father’s Day gift you can still get one through them but orders must be made by 3pm, 31 August for delivery. Click + collect until 2pm, 3 September.
Have a great rest of the week!
