Tips on supporting your teenagers
Hello! I hope you are having a great day as this email pops into your inbox. A hot topic suggested for me to write about in this year’s reader survey was more posts on teenagers. I completely understand this as when I was parenting our first teen I found this stage of parenting really challenging.
I was reading lots of books which helped but I also wanted to hear real experiences from other families. Unlike the toddler years, for example, parents don’t necessarily share as many stories of their teenagers amongst each other. Nor do you find as many blogs online that share stories about teenagers. I also understand why this is as well.
Teenagers are very private and while sharing stories about issues we are having with our teenagers is good for us, most teenagers do not appreciate this. Keeping the trust of your teenager is absolutely key to maintaining a healthy relationship with them. Over the years I have written less about teenagers on the blog as I want to maintain the privacy of the kids.
So writing posts on teenagers on the blog is challenging but I will try and write more posts this year. I have published my first post today which is all about how we can best support our teenagers. This post is more about me, the parent, and what I can do as opposed to focusing on the behaviour of teens. You can find it here - How to support your teenagers.
I adore my teens but they are like all other teens in the world. They push the boundaries, they make bad decisions, they struggle at times to manage their emotions and they can do and say things that I don’t like. But those are stories that I cannot tell. I would have hated it if my parents published stories of my mistakes as a teen - and they would have had many to share as I made plenty of mistakes!
If you are new to the blog you can always head to the teenager archive here to find all previous posts I have written on teens, including book reviews of books I have found helpful.
Enjoy the rest of the week!

How Adapt Drinks Relax can help with menopause symptoms
Schisandra chinensis (also known as Schisandra Berry) is one of two key adaptogenic herbs in Adapt Relax. There is great research showing how this power herb can help women with menopause symptoms.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in 2014/15 to evaluate the effectiveness of a natural extract from Schisandra chinensis for relief of various menopausal symptoms. The study recruited women between the ages of 40 and 70 years who complained of menopausal symptoms as measured by the Kupperman Index. The women received treatment for 6 weeks - either a placebo or an extract from Schisandra chinesis and were followed for 12 weeks.
The study found that Schisandra Berry was a safe and effective complementary medicine for menopausal symptoms, especially for hot flushes, sweating, and heart palpitations. You can find the study here.
Like all adaptogens, Schisandra Chinensis is most effective when taken consistently over time. A daily bottle of Adapt Relax in the afternoon will not only give you a healthy alternative to alcohol at the end of your day, but over time it can help you adapt better to the stressors of daily life and reduce symptoms of menopause if you have them!
