Where to start if you feel like you are drowning in life admin
Hello there,
There is so much going on in the world at the moment. I am so aware of how lucky I am to be safe and secure right now. I know there will be readers out there who are not - I am thinking of you and I hope safety and security return to you very soon.
Two years into this pandemic and many lockdowns later where we have not been allowed to do much more than exercise a few kilometres from home, we might have thought with all of the “spare time” we have had, we would have caught up on all of the life admin that we have put off because we were out and about doing other things.
I know this isn’t the case for me and I have life admin that needs addressing. Life admin is one of those tasks where the bulk of the work most often falls to the female in the relationship. Life admin takes up a significant amount of time and mental energy and it is often not the most fun task to work on. Unfortunately, though, most of life admin has to be done and while we might get away with putting it off, if we don’t get to it, it can be costly in terms of dollars, stress and chaos at home.
Mia Northrup is a life admin expert and she is my guest on the podcast this week. This is the second time I have had the pleasure of interviewing Mia. Mia was on the podcast back in 2016 ep 13 and we talked about:
Tips on redesigning your life
Tips on how to fit your personal creative pursuits into your day
Tips on returning to work part time
Working on friction points in the family
Encouraging creativity in kids
Much has changed for Mia since then. In the last five years, Mia has separated from her partner, moved to full time work, started a successful podcast and published a book! This gave us plenty to talk about. Areas we covered in the podcast were:
Creating a co-parenting system that worked for her family
Tweaking life admin processes and systems to cater for their new arrangements
Managing the logistics of a week on week off arrangement for her and the kids
What her on week meal planning looks like and what the off week looks like
How Mia transitions between the on and off weeks
Making the time to write a book while working full time
Where to start with life admin
Why it isn’t just us – the reasons why there is so much more life admin now
Systems that help you share the load of life admin
The power of checklists to save you time
The hour of power and how it can transform your approach to life admin
Where to start if you feel like you are drowning in life admin
I recommend having some note paper handy as Mia has so many excellent tips you will want to write them all down! You can find the podcast here - this family life episode 77: on organising life admin.
My podcast interview with Peri Menopause Power
My interview with the lovely Natalie Moore and Lisa Sauners from Own Your Own Health Collective is now live - Adapting to living your best life with Nicole Avery. In the episode, we talk about supporting other women and their health, the power of living life in alignment with your values and goals, and of course my experience with Peri Menopause. If you have a listen, let me know what you think!
How Adapt Drinks Relax can help with menopause symptoms
Schisandra chinensis (also known as Schisandra Berry) is one of two key adaptogenic herbs in Adapt Relax. There is great research showing how this power herb can help women with menopause symptoms.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in 2014/15 to evaluate the effectiveness of a natural extract from Schisandra chinensis for relief of various menopausal symptoms. The study recruited women between the ages of 40 and 70 years who complained of menopausal symptoms as measured by the Kupperman Index. The women received treatment for 6 weeks - either a placebo or an extract from Schisandra chinesis and were followed for 12 weeks.
The study found that Schisandra Berry was a safe and effective complementary medicine for menopausal symptoms, especially for hot flushes, sweating, and heart palpitations. You can find the study here.
Like all adaptogens, Schisandra Chinensis is most effective when taken consistently over time. A daily bottle of Adapt Relax in the afternoon will not only give you a healthy alternative to alcohol at the end of your day, but over time it can help you adapt better to the stressors of daily life and reduce symptoms of menopause if you have them! Take care,
