About that time tracking email
Hello!
On Sunday you would have received an email from me with the subject Time tracking tells a different story. I was rushing when I clicked on the buttons to send that email and it was sent to everyone not just the paid subscribers of the NOW newsletter!
As you received that email, I thought it would be a good time to explain a little more about what the paid option of this newsletter is. I send an email similar to that each Sunday outlining the key tasks I will be working on in the upcoming week for personal, business and health, and fitness. I also share some tips or personal learning that I think will help subscribers with how they approach the day-to-day activities of their life. Subscribers then add their own task lists in the comments and we have conversations around that.
On Friday afternoons (sometimes evening), I send another email with an update on how I progressed for the week. This is very honest and I will tell you where I have succeeded and where I have failed. This email also includes a tip or personal learning and I share a few things I think subscribers might like. It could be articles, videos, podcasts, books, Instagram posts or TV shows that I have consumed and think they might like them too.
Every couple of months we have a Zoom catch up and chat about how we are progressing with our goal for the year and any wins/challenges we are having. The women in the group are pretty amazing - some have their own businesses, others are in academia or the corporate world, and some are focusing full time on family - but regardless of what they are doing we all have similar challenges and it is inpsiring to read what others are doing and how they are doing it.
If you would like to join us, you can find out more here or click the subscribe button below!
You can pay monthly (US$5) and end your subscription at any time or save and pay for the year upfront (US$50). Any questions you can hit reply and let me know!
Have a great week.
Nic
PS. This weekly email isn’t sent directly to paid subscribers. To help keep their inbox less cluttered I link to it in my Friday email so they can read it from there.
PPS. In case you missed it, this post from last week was super popular with parents - 37 essential life skills for adulting. I have lots of great additions that have been given to me which I will add next week, so if you have anything you would add to the list let me know this week.
Schisandra berry, stress and menopause
Schisandra Chinensis is also known as Schisandra berry due to the small fruits that it grows. The berries are described as having five tastes: sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, and sour so you may also see it referred to as the five-flavour-fruit.
Schisandra berry is one of two key adaptogenic herbs in Adapt Relax. Adaptogenic herbs are a select group of herbs that have powerful properties to help our bodies cope with the stressors of modern life.
Schisandra berry and the stress response
Schisandra Chinensis has been observed to make alterations in the basal levels of nitric oxide and cortisol in blood and saliva with subsequent effects on the blood cells, vessels and CNS. This means that Schisandra Chinensis can help reduce the excessive cortisol release that we experience in times of stress and return us to homeostasis faster through the regulation of the key mediators of our stress response. You can read a detailed explanation of the stress response with some great diagrams to illustrate how it works here - The Stress Response and Adaptogens.
Schisandra berry and menopause
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in 2014/15 to evaluate the effectiveness of a natural extract from Schisandra chinensis for relief of various menopausal symptoms. The study recruited women between the ages of 40 and 70 years who complained of menopausal symptoms as measured by the Kupperman Index. The women received treatment for 6 weeks - either a placebo or an extract from Schisandra chinesis and were followed for 12 weeks.
The study found that Schisandra chinensis was a safe and effective complementary medicine for menopausal symptoms, especially for hot flushes, sweating, and heart palpitations. You can find the study here.
Like all adaptogens, Schisandra Chinensis is most effective when taken consistently over time. A daily bottle of Adapt Relax in the afternoon will not only give you a healthy alternative to alcohol at the end of your day, but over time it has been shown to help you adapt better to the stressors of daily life and reduce symptoms of menopause if you have them!
