What I have been reading, watching and listening to
Hello,
Hope your week so far is bringing you joy! I am pretty excited as today is the last day of the week for me. I am heading away for a long weekend with friends and looking forward to the fun this mini-break is going to bring.
It has been a while since I have shared what I have been into of late. With the paid subscription to this newsletter, each Friday when I send out my update I include some things I have been either reading, watching, or listening to that I think others might also enjoy. If you would like to find out more about the paid subscription you can click here. Most of what I share below, I have shared with the paid subscribers over the last couple of months plus other resources and tips to help with continuing improvement and growth.
If you have read, watched or listened to something lately that you think others would like, please leave a link in the comments so we can check it out!
Reading
A collection of posts that I have been reading. If you are after books to read, then check out my monthly reviews for the books I have been reading here and here.
Why Trying to Be Perfect Won’t Help You Achieve Your Goals (And What Will) - an excellent article from James Clear on how we can let perfectionism get in the way of our own growth.
Organizing Is Easier After Minimizing - “Organizing is always, only a temporary solution. You can organize all your stuff today, only to have to organize it again tomorrow—no matter how great your system.”
Female Athletes Need Carbohydrates - low carb is super popular and I loved this article from Dr Stacy Sims. There have been times when I have erred on the low carb side but have found while it is okay in the short term for me, with the volume of running and other exercise I do, it isn’t good for my performance or overall health.
Watching
Some short videos on Youtube (all less than 10 minutes) that I have found thought provoking and/or helpful
Intergenerational Trauma Animation - this video is beautifully animated and explains simply and powerfully how if people are not allowed to heal from their trauma it is passed on to the next generation.
Parkinson’s Law: How to Manage Your Time More Effectively - an excellent video on why some of us leave things to the last minute and what to do about it.
The Present - as this short animation has been watched over 10 million times you may have already seen it but is such a powerful piece of work. The range of emotions you feel in 4 mins is pretty amazing.
Listening
I love podcasts - feel free to send me any recommendations you have for great podcasts!
How To Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life with Nir Eyal - - Feel Better, Live More with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee - this is a short clip from a longer interview with Eyal but it is a great reminder that we have the power to control where our attention goes.
Setting Boundaries with Sara Kuburic - A Bit of Optimism with Simon Senek - Sarah is known as the Millennial Therapist and was born in Yugoslavia and raised in Canada. She shares insights on self-love, trauma and authenticity reveal both a kind heart and profound wisdom.
Relax 1 - I have been going back and listening to this playlist. I carefully curated this list to include amazing female Australian vocalists, it is a beautiful calming playlist.
